Interesting idea, but remember China wouldn't have DeepSeek had Silicon Valley not developed LLMs or generative AI. China has done well with AI, but does it have the inherent capability to create something from nothing like the US often does? Bertrand Russell said, "talent hits a target no one else can hit, genius hits a target no one else sees." Remember, China is a culture where people don't like to stick up their head for fear of it getting sickled off (the grain that rises the highest..), which is not a philosophy not conducive to innovation. That coupled with CCP minders keeping a close eye on things as well doesn't bode well for China surpassing the US anytime soon.
